An immersive experience directed by Drôle de Trame, the theater of cave art is one of the Lascaux International mediation Center's flagship developments, in Montignac.
In three 5mn-acts, the visitor goes along several little theaters. He walks back in time to encounter the major prehistoric discoveries through a show made of settings and screen projections. Sound and lights theater effects used to recreate atmospheres complete the scenography.
The 3 acts each refer to a different period.
Act 1 takes the visitor to the 19th century. It is the time when the first painted caves were discovered. Actors and animated archives give life to passionate debates about the cave paintings' authenticity.
The visitor then gets into act 2's space. We are in the middle of the 20th century, the figures' interpretations generate lots of debates between the «pope of prehistory», Henri Breuil, and ethnologist and historian André Leroi-Gourhan.
Act 3 shows today's research community, laboratory studies with state-of-the-art technology. This is a futuristic world in which researchers question the past to safeguard the future.
