The Arab Spring gave huge hope to Arab women, a hope of democracy and equality.
We saw women next to men, in the front row, active.
They want to change the world just as much as men do.
But, contrary to popular belief, Arab women’s struggle for democracy and equality is not a recent issue. It began over a century ago, in the streets of Cairo and Tunis, about the same time as the suffragettes in Northern Europe…
This documentary film tells its story, from Tunis to Casablanca, from Algiers to Cairo, and questions whether it can survive in the present geopolitical context.
Mixing previously unseen archive images and contemporary elements, the film alternates between excerpts of interviews and characters, as close as possible to the men and women of the Arab streets.

Press review
Feriel Ben Mahmoud manages to embrace a diversity of situations and countries (...) without ever losing his common thread: equality. A very enlightening journey.
MEDIAPART
The director demonstrates how the leaders of pan-Arabism valued and then instrumentalised the Arab woman.
TELERAMA
This excellent documentary is necessary.
